My daily driver: AT-LP120
I bought my first record player in 2019, it was an Elemental Phono from the company Pro-Ject. I never upgraded the cartridge and eventually sold it after buying my current daily driver. I picked up a used AT-LP120, one of the earlier versions of the model (no "X" at the end of the model name). I upgraded the stock cartridge to a pre-owned AT440MLB (which has since been discontinued, the successor model is the VMN40ML). The cartridge was released over 10 years ago, but the previous owner didn’t use it much and it still sounds and works great. Some people are hesitant about buying used audio equipment, especially cartridges and needles, but I don’t mind.
My all time favorite record player: AT-SB727 "Sound Burger"
Last year, I picked up a Sound Burger and instantly fell in love with its design and portability. I upgraded the needle to the ATN3600LE, the carrying case is the AT-SBC1. It’s a lot of fun to use, whether traveling or at home.
In addition to vinyl records I also like cassette tapes.
Shortly after purchasing my first record player, I picked up my first vintage cassette player.
It's a Philips D6920, made in '82/83.
It weighs about 3 kg, which is surprisingly heavy, and the built-in speakers are terrible, but it's a lot of fun to use.
My most recent purchase, a B-1000EW.
It's hard to find good, newly made portable cassette players, as most of them use the same basic mechanism.
In my opinion the B-1000EW is currently the best new Walkman you can buy.
Of course, you can always go for a vintage one but prices have increased dramatically in recent years.
Moondrop Discdream 2 CD player
The Moondrop Discdream 2 is the first dedicated CD player I’ve owned since I was a teenager. I hesitated for months before buying it, but eventually caved when it went on sale. I like the design, and it’s small enough to carry around. But compared to Discmans from over 20 years ago, it’s still massive.
